Play Responsibly

Play Smart. Play Safe.

PCSO promotes responsible play for all Filipinos. Playing the lottery should always be fun, affordable, and within your means. If it's no longer enjoyable, it's time to take a step back.

Four Pillars of Responsible Play

Follow these guidelines to ensure a positive and healthy lottery experience.

Play Within Your Means

Set a weekly or monthly budget for lottery play and never exceed it. Lottery tickets should come from your entertainment budget — not from money for rent, food, utilities, or savings.

Tip: Decide your budget before you purchase. Never chase losses by spending more.

Recognize the Warning Signs

  • Spending more than you can afford on tickets
  • Borrowing money or selling belongings to play
  • Feeling anxious, restless, or irritable when not playing
  • Neglecting family, work, or responsibilities
  • Lying about how much time or money you spend on lottery

Seek Help When Needed

If lottery play is causing stress or financial problems, help is available. You are not alone. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Contact the PCSO Hotline at (02) 8709-7777 or the DOH Mental Health Crisis Hotline at 1553 (24/7, toll-free).

For Family & Friends

If someone you care about may have a problem with excessive lottery play:

  • Express concern without judgment
  • Avoid enabling the behavior (lending money, covering debts)
  • Encourage them to talk to a professional counselor
  • Learn about problem lottery behavior to better understand

Self-Assessment: Am I Playing Responsibly?

Answer honestly — this is a private check for your own awareness.

Check all that apply to you:

Based on the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) screening criteria.
